Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) and Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV) are both part of the Herpesviridae family but cause different infections. Herpes IgM testing for Varicella Zoster Virus specifically detects IgM antibodies, which are the body’s early response to a new infection. The HSV IgM (Varicella) test is used to identify if a person is currently infected with Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV), the virus that causes chickenpox and shingles.
