HBsAg (Hepatitis B surface antigen) is a protein found on the surface of the Hepatitis B virus (HBV). The presence of HBsAg in the blood is one of the key markers for detecting Hepatitis B infection and is used to assess the infectiousness and stage of the disease. It is widely used in diagnostic tests to determine if a person has an active Hepatitis B infection.
