The Cryptococcal Antigen (Cryptococcal Ag) Test is a diagnostic test used to detect the presence of Cryptococcus antigens in the blood or cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Cryptococcus is a type of yeast that can cause serious infections, particularly in individuals with weakened immune systems. The most common species that infect humans is Cryptococcus neoformans, although other species, like Cryptococcus gattii, can also cause infections.
