The CA 19-9 test measures the level of CA 19-9, a tumor marker primarily used to help monitor gastrointestinal cancers, particularly pancreatic cancer. CA 19-9 is a carbohydrate antigen that is found in elevated levels in the blood of people with certain types of cancer, as well as in some benign conditions. This marker is particularly useful for assessing treatment response and detecting cancer recurrence, especially in pancreatic, liver, and gastrointestinal cancers.
