Bronchial washing is a diagnostic procedure in which a sterile saline solution is instilled into the bronchi and then retrieved via bronchoscopy to collect cellular and microbiological material from the lower respiratory tract. This fluid is then analyzed for cytological, microbiological, and biochemical parameters to aid in diagnosing infections, malignancies, and inflammatory lung diseases.
