Immunoglobulins (Ig), also known as antibodies, are glycoproteins produced by plasma cells (differentiated B cells) in response to the presence of antigens such as pathogens, viruses, or foreign substances. Immunoglobulins play a crucial role in the immune system by recognizing and neutralizing these foreign invaders. There are five primary classes of immunoglobulins: IgA, IgG, IgM, IgD, and IgE. However, IgA, IgG, and IgM are the most commonly discussed due to their major roles in immune responses.
