Estradiol (E2) is a form of estrogen, a primary female sex hormone. It plays a crucial role in the development and regulation of the female reproductive system, menstrual cycle, and overall health. Estradiol is the most potent and prevalent estrogen in women during their reproductive years and is produced mainly by the ovaries, although smaller amounts are also produced by the adrenal glands, and placenta (during pregnancy).
