Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR) is a crucial measure used to assess kidney function. It estimates how well the kidneys are filtering waste from the blood. The glomerular filtration rate (GFR) refers to the rate at which blood is filtered through the glomeruli (tiny filters in the kidneys). An eGFR test provides an estimate of this rate based on the levels of creatinine in the blood, a waste product of muscle metabolism, along with other factors such as age, sex, and race.
