Coombs Test (Indirect)

The Indirect Coombs Test (also known as the Indirect Antiglobulin Test, or IAT) is a laboratory test used to detect free-floating antibodies in a patient’s blood that can bind to red blood cells. Unlike the Direct Coombs Test (which detects antibodies already attached to red blood cells), the Indirect Coombs Test is primarily used to detect antibodies against red blood cells that are circulating in the bloodstream.
