When a body fluid culture and sensitivity (C/S) test is ordered, it is used to identify and determine the cause of an infection in a specific body fluid. The test helps detect the presence of microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, or sometimes viruses) in a body fluid sample, and it also determines which antibiotics or antifungal agents will be most effective against the microorganisms found.
